At Cornerstone Chiropractic Center, we offer dry needling to help treat those who struggle with chronic pain and stiffness.

Dry needling involves the use of ultra-fine acupuncture needles into muscle tissue to relieve tension, inflammation, and pain. The needles are inserted into trigger points that may not only be painful or tender themselves but may be affecting surrounding nerves and soft tissues as well. By inserting the needle into these areas, the muscle can relax causing the relief of symptoms.

How is Dry Needling Different From Acupuncture?
Though dry needling sounds similar to acupuncture, they are two different therapies. Acupuncture aims to treat physical conditions based on methods of traditional Chinese medicine. Dry needling instead is routed in relieving neuromuscular symptoms by deactivating certain trigger points from inflamed and irritated muscles.

Conditions Treated
Dry needling has proven effects in treating the following conditions, including:

  • Chronic pain
  • Headaches
  • Injures from Repeated stress and overuse
  • Muscle strain
  • Phantom sensations
  • Pinched nerves
  • Trauma

The needles used during treatment are thin and do not penetrate deeply. Treatment should not cause any pain, though you may feel pressure or a tingling sensation. Dry needling is considered a safe treatment option for most patients including pregnant women and patients over the age of 65.
